To keep your pantry stocked and not have to demand buy.  We want to grab the staples of our kitchen when they are at their lowest price and stock up on them. Many of the items on this list you can get at even lower prices, but a goal should be to get them at the price listed or less. Stock up when you see that price and then you are set for any recipe that you come across.


Saving yourself from running to the store for that one item will not only save time, but also save a ton of money. Whenever I “run to the store” I will pay retail for things that I need. It’s just the way sales work.

April Challenge - Week Three

I did much better this past week.  Spent $63.94 and saved $90
What did we eat last week you might ask??  We ate well all three meals at home, except one.
Dinners : crockpot chicken, pot roast, chicken on the grill, hamburgers, just to name a few!
This coming week will be harder with two stores doing triples:)

It’s official, or as official as you can get, that starting 4/28 through 5/4 Harris Teeter will have Triples! This means that any coupon 99 cents or less will be tripled in value.


You are allowed 20 tripled coupons per day. Southern Savers will have a massive Triples list up for you by Saturday night.

Somethings I learned at Harris Teeter this week.

Harris Teeter is cracking down on using Two coupons for BOGO.  When they advertise BOGO it is really half price/half price.  I went on the web site and it does state that you can only use one coupon for BOGO.  So what I suggest is two transactions, so you will get them for half price in each transaction.

They will only take two internet coupons for like items.  So if you buy 2 boxes of Cheerios cereal and you have 2 internet coupons, one for each box, that is fine.  But if you want 3 boxes and 3 internet coupons they won't let you.  So again I would try two transactions.

Using A Buy Price List - Good Info.

One of the biggest parts to saving on groceries is to know what a stock up price is for the products you buy. Prices for each item will vary week by week at the grocery store, and your goal is to only buy them when they are the lowest price the store is going to offer them at. To do this it helps to have a lowest price list (on paper or in your head). When an item is in the price range or lower then you stock up on it!! Sales run on cycles so you won’t see this low price again for 6-8 weeks, get enough to get you through until the next time you see this price.


To help you, here Southern Savers Buy Price List.

The prices are after coupons and sales, and are for Southern Savers area. You may find that milk is much cheaper in your city or other items are more expensive. You will also find that sometimes a deal comes and makes these prices seem like retail prices. Those deals are great, but you should not plan your list off the occasional incredible deal or else you won’t buy anything for long periods of time, waiting for only the free deals…

To make your own list you can use this Blank Version.  It is a good idea to keep this sheet in your coupon binder, or folded up in the back of my coupon box.

Note: Your prices will fluctuate as manufacturer’s raise prices or as new coupons come out. This just give you an idea to go buy.

Kroger Mega Deal yesterday

What great deals at Kroger this week.  I did three mega deals, so I purchase 10 items on the mega deal list and got $5 automatically off, times three.  I spent $25.00 saved $65.00.  Some items were not on sale, but needed them.  Like bread, milk, popsicles (ok I didn't need the popsicles)

End of the month printable reminder.

Just a reminder that Sunday will officially be the end of the month, so be sure to print out any online coupons that you want. Most coupon sites reset the first day of the month. This means that the coupon that are here will either be gone, or they will be reset so you can print another one!  The Kraft coupon on coupons.com has been reset, so you can print two more.

I love Sundays!!  Worshipping with the body of Christ is a great way to start the week.  Then I get to come home and look at great deals in my Sunday paper. 

Did you see the free stuff at Staples?? You need to have a Staples reward card, you will pay out of pocket and then get the money back in Staples reward.  Which can be used for more items that generate more rewards or ink.  We all can use ink right???   Free writing pads, enevelopes, pens, binder clips.  $1.00 items in the middle of the Ad.  Pens, pencils, dry erase board and markers.

Why couponing???

A few years ago some women from my Sunday school class gathered in the summer for a book study.  We were reading the book Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney.  When reading the chapter "The honor of working from home"  I questioned how well I managed my home.  My husband works hard as a teacher which is the majority of our income.  I, being the home manager, spent most of that money.  Was I using it well and was I being wise?  Carolyn Mahaney said we should approach our occupation as home managers with the same seriousness as a career outside of the home.  I wanted to manage my home the best I could.  So I reviewed how I was doing and what I could do differently.  I looked at my grocery budget and thought I can do better.  I was spending about $700 a month on groceries and toiletries.  That was for a family of four.  Now I spend about $350 - $400 a month for a family of five.
